Day 1 Monday: Guayaquil – Cuenca – City tour
In the morning you will drive from the coast to the Andeans, to the colonial city of Cuenca. After the arrival you will go directly to the hotel El Dorado. After lunch you will do a sightseeing tour through the colonial part of Cuenca with its beautiful churches, handicraft stalls and the well-known flower market. Cuenca is the culture metropolis and the arts and crafts centre of Ecuador. Its cosy atmosphere is underlined by the many cobbled stone pavements and the many noble façades with the stilted balustrades and wrought-iron balconies. In Cuenca ceramics, embroidery, leather goods and baskets are manufactured. Dinner and overnight accommodation in the Hotel El Dorado. B/L/D
Day 2 Tuesday: Cuenca and its surroundings
After the breakfast you will do a day excursion through the mountain landscape to the Eastern part of Cuenca. On the way to your first stop you will pass a fascination landscape to the village of Gualaceo. It seems to be a miniature form of Cuenca with its narrow alleys, beautiful plazas and the tranquil atmosphere. In this village there are made colourful and woollen clothes which are famous in the whole country. You will also visit an orchid farm which is close to the village of Gualaceo. From there you continue to Chordeleg. It is said to be the ecuadorian center for silver and gold juwlery. In the afternoon you will return to Cuenca where you will spend the night in the Hotel El Dorado. B/L/-
Day 3 Wednesday: Cuenca – Ingapirca – Riobamba
Today you will go further to the North. On the way you will stop at the famous ‘Ingapirca’ (Quechua for “wall rocks of the Inca”) the most important and well preserved Inca ruins in Ecuador where you can wander around the beautiful site and visit the museum. After the visit you will have lunch and continue your way to Riobamba the capital of the province Chimborazo.
It is surrounded by the mountains Chimborazo, Carihuayrazo, Altar and Tungurahua and is the most important agars centre of the Ecuadorian Andeans. About 80% of the people living around the city are Indio and come to Riobamba on the days when the markets take place. In the afternoon you will visit the typical Andeans market of Mercado de la Merced. There you can buy fruits, vegetables, juices and many other things. Dinner and Overnight in the Hosteria Abrasprungo. B/L/D
Day 4 Thursday: Baños - Avenue of the Waterfalls – Puyo – Las Cascadas
In the morning you will drive from Riobamba to Baños, a tiny village with a beautiful setting and a pleasant sub-tropical climate, which is famous for its thermal baths and Basilica. Driving on to the East on a dusty road you will follow the Rio Pastaza on its way through the valley of the same name, passing a number of waterfalls. At the biggest waterfall, the Pailon del Diablo, you will stop for a visit. Afterwards you continue to the city Puyo, also known as “The Gateway to the jungle”. After another 40 kilometres to the East you will reach the Las Cascadas Jungle Lodge in the late afternoon. The Lodge is located in the middle of the compact rain forest and invites observe the numerous flowers and blooms in the surroundings. In this wonderful ambience you will enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night. B/L/D
Day 5 Friday: Las Cascadas – Río Napo – Casa de Suizo
After breakfast and a 2-hours drive you will reach at Punta Ahuano, a tiny port town on the North bank of the Napo River, where canoes await for a late-afternoon 15-minute ride downstream to la Casa de Suizo. After lunch you will make a canoe tour in the romantic river, where you can admire several animals and plants. On our way, you will visit an animal farm (AmaZOOnico), in which ill animals are cured to get back to life in jungle. Afterwards you continue the canoe ride on Rio Arajuro you are invited to float downstream the river on a big inner tube. ”Tubing” sounds and actually is great fun! The light current will carry you down the river.
After all the water-action a fabulous dinner will be served in the Casa de Suizo and the rest of the evening is for your free proposal. B/L/D
Day 6 Saturday: La Casa de Suizo
After breakfast you will board a dugout canoe, and navigate 20 minutes down the waters of the scenic Napo River. The destination is Pangayacu, where during an approximately three-hour walk through primary rainforest you will have the opportunity to see actual hunting traps which were traditionally used by the local natives in the past. The guides will demonstrate how they work and explain which type of animals was caught in each one. And of course, at all times you will be on the lookout for tropical birds, and point out important aspects of the surrounding vegetation. The trail leads to the home of a Quichua Indian family, whose garden contains many medicinal plants still commonly used today. Your guide will explain how they are prepared, and afterwards serve lunch (which will be sent from the hotel) near the edge of the Napo. B/L/D
Day 7 Sunday: La Casa de Suizo - Quito
After breakfast you will depart for the trip up the mountains and to the capital of Ecuador - Quito. A few hundred meters under the pass of the eastern Andean mountain range there are the hot springs of Papallacta (3.700m), the most beautiful ones of the country. Here you can relax bathing in the hot springs. While you are bathing you can see the glaciers of the volcano Antisana if the weather conditions are good.
In The afternoon you continue your travel to Quito which you reach in the evening. B/L/-
