In the morning we will meet you at your hotel in Quito and start the city tour. This city tour covers the major colonial churches and monasteries in Quito such as La Catedral, El Sagrario, La Compañia and San Francisco. You visit the historic colonial quarter of Quito, resplendent with its churches, gilded altars and religious sculptures and paintings dating from the 17th; 18th and 19th centuries. The tour continues through narrow streets, ancient colonial houses with Moorish-style arches and mysterious patios to El Panecillo, and a neutral vantage point for an overwhelming view of the city. Returning from here you will get a taste of the new section of Quito, which is noted for its modern architecture.
Later we will drive from Quito 25 km north to Mitad del Mundo (literally middle of the world) where the Equatorial Line Monument is located. The monument reminds the French-Spanish expedition from 1763-1744, which, under the leadership of Charles de la Condamine, determined the position of the equator. Here you can stand with one foot on the Northern and with the other one on the Southern hemisphere. We will visit the adjacent park with leisure facilities, which feature a typical Spanish style colonial village and an ethnological museum. Following we will visit the Museo de Sol where you will get to know a lot about the culture and the knowledge of the Incas. In the afternoon we return to Quito and bring you to your hotel.
