Carihuayrazo is often chosen as an acclimatization climb. Being snow-capped, it offers possibilities to practice with mountaineering equipment. However, there is plenty more to this mountain. Situated about 140 kilometers south of Quito, climbing on the mountain provides a clear view and an opportunity to admire its bigger brother, Carihuayrazo, as well as . Since there is no refuge, the night before the ascent will be spent in tents.
Day 1: Quito – Camp Carihuayrazo
We will leave Quito in the morning by car, heading south. After 5 hours we will reach the foot of the mountain, where we will set up our camp at a height of 4400 m. After dinner, we will go to bed early in preparation for our summit attempt.
Day 2: Camp – Summit - Quito
We will wake up at the break of dawn and then after 4 hours of climbing, we will reach the summit. After the descent, we will relax at camp and then return to Quito.

Note: The itinerary of the adventure tour can be changed by the guide due to security reasons (climate, conditions etc) as well as by the national park administration due to changing national park rules. Nevertheless the security and the interest of the participants will always have first priority.

Private transportation 4WD, one qualified mountain guide for every 2 climbers (English/Spanish speaking), meals as mentioned above. For climbing: mountain boots, ice axe, crampons, harness, rope, National Park entrance fee, camping equipment such as 2 person tents, mattresses, cooking equipment.
Not included in the price
Sleeping bag, personal equipment, tips, travel insurance, mountain equipment: gaiters, warm and waterproof clothes, sunglasses, headlamp with batteries, gloves etc.
What to Bring
Sleeping bag, personal equipment, travel insurance, mountain equipment: gaiters, warm and waterproof clothes (Fleece and Gore-Tex), sunglasses, headlamp with batteries, gloves, sun block, torch, hat, trekking shoes, warm and water–proof clothing, canteen, camera.
Please note that steep slopes and plenty of crevasses complicate the ascent and therefore climbing experience is necessary for this mountain. Ideally you climb another less technical peak like Cayambe or Cotopaxi before climbing Antisana, anyway a good acclimatization is essential for a successful ascent. As there is no hut in the area accommodation at the base camp will be in tents.
